SIX CHARGERS NET DOUBLE FIGURES IN WIN OVER COUGARS
Caldwell, N.J. (1/29/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team downed host, Caldwell University, 92-77, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game played in the Newman Center.
With the win Dominican improves to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in CACC play, while the Cougars fall to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
The Chargers had six different players reach double figures to help lead the team to victory.
Forward Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) led all scorers with 23 points and five rebounds.
Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) each scored 16 points with Cherry adding five boards and Honis delivering three assists.
Sophomore Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) tallied 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Sam Parris (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and three caroms a piece in the victory.
Guard Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) dished out a career high 12 assists.
Caldwell opened the game on a 6-5 run when the Chargers countered with eight straight points, including back-to-back three-point buckets from Cherry and Parris. A 19-9 run later by DUNY increased the lead to 12 points with six and a half minutes left and a layup from Emmanuel Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 1:35 left before the break gave the team their biggest advantage in the game, 54-28.
Dominican never trailed in the second frame and with Brown netting 11 second half points (5-7 from the floor) in cruising to the win. The Chargers held a 39-32 advantage on the glass and collected 24 total assists.
The Chargers return to play on Wednesday evening when they travel to the University of Bridgeport.
