'CATS PICK UP VICTORY OVER MEN'S BASKETBALL
Newark, Del. (2/17/24) The Wilmington University men's basketball team topped the visiting Chargers of Dominican University New York, 99-95, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the Wilmington University Athletics Complex.
The win lifts the Wildcats to 13-12 overall and 6-7 in CACC play, while the Chargers fall to 16-9 overall and 7-6 in the conference.
A Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) layup with 12:02 remaining in the first half gave DUNY their biggest lead of the contest, 18-9, but the tide turned as the 'Cats went on a 22-9 run put them ahead 32-29 with under four minutes left. WilmU closed out the half on an 8-2 spurt to push ahead, 40-31, at the break.
Wilmington extended the lead to 19 points (67-48) with 10:53 on the clock in the second frame, but the Chargers would cut the deficit to 12 (91-79) with just over a minute to play. Dominican got within six points with 19 ticks left and Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) ended the game with a three-point basket in the 99-95 loss.
Dominican was led by Sharif-Brown who scored 25 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) added 14 points and four boards, while Cherry finished with 11 points and Key'Sean Maynard (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 11 points.
Guard Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) delivered a team best seven assists, seven points, four caroms and three steals. Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Michael O'Mahony (Cork, Ireland) scored seven points a-piece in the loss.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to CACC North Division foe, Bloomfield College of Montclair State University.
