MEN'S LACROSSE CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS TO LIONS
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/28/23) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team concluded the regular season with a 17-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University in game played today at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/28/23) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team concluded the regular season with a 17-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University in game played today at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Following the game, the Chargers conclude the regular season with an overall record of 5-10 and a CACC mark of 3-4.
Dominican played their best in the fourth quarter of play where they outscored the Lions, 5-4. After a GCU goal to start the period, the Chargers went on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 14-10. Freshman Zachary Souza (Stratford, Conn.) began the run with back-to-back scores, while Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) followed with a goal off the assist from Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Carson closed out the run with a goal off the dish from William Gordon (Amityville, N.Y.).
Souza closed out the game with three goals, while Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist.
Midfielder Gordon had a team best three assists to go along with two goals, with Carson adding one goal and two assists.
Sean Cosgrove (Warwick, N.Y.) and Greenwood each recorded one goal and Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) had an assist in the loss.
The Chargers went 12-15 in clear opportunities and acquired 31 ground balls.
Goalie Steffen Peabody (Brookhaven, N.Y.) made 19 saves in the contest.
Dominican returns to action on Monday in the first round of the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Lacrosse Championships where the fifth-seeded Chargers will travel to #4 Post University.
