Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/24/24) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action to the visiting Saints of D'Youville University, 14-11, this afternoon in a game played on Sister Mary Eileen O'Brien Field.
Following the loss, the Chargers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Saints improve to 1-2 overall.
Sophomore attacker Chad Keyser (Kingston, N.Y.) led the Chargers with three goals.
Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) netted two goals while six other players recorded a goal.
Senior Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) dished out two assists and Patrick Roderka (Warwick, N.Y.) picked up nine ground balls and won 17 face offs.
Charger goalie Bryce Layton (Glenville, N.Y.) made eight saves in the loss.
The Chargers opened the game with the first score on the opening face off, but the Saints scored two straight to take the lead. Back-to-back DUNY goals regained a 3-2 edge, however DYU closed out the period on a 3-1 to pull ahead 5-4.
Each team scored two goals in the second frame to see the Saints head into the intermission with a 7-6 advantage.
The third quarter saw both teams net three goals each to make the score 10-9 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final 15 minutes, D'Youville used a 4-2 run to secure the 14-11 win.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday, March 2nd when they travel to Molloy University.
