CHARGERS DROP CACC OPENER TO GRIFFINS
Lafayette, Pa. (3/16/24) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team fell in their CACC opener to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this afternoon.
The Chargers fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play while CHC improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
Bryce Layton (Glenville, N.Y.) made 12 saves in goal for the Chargers but suffered the loss while CHC goalkeeper Julius Sorino made five saves and recorded the win.
The Griffins started off strong by outscoring the Chargers 6-1 in the first quarter and added three more goals in the second quarter while shutting out the Chargers for the 9-1 halftime lead.
The Griffins scored the first goal of the third quarter extending their run to nine unanswered goals. The Chargers ended the run but CHC added four more goals before the end of the third quarter. Each team scored once in the fourth quarter and the Griffins secured the 15-4 victory.
Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) scored two goals for the Chargers while Patrick Roderka (Warwick, N.Y.) and James Conklin (Warwick, N.Y.) each scored one goal. Roderka picked up a team-high eight ground balls while Conklin took a team-high eight shots.
Zachary Souza (Stratford, Conn.) took six total shots and picked up two ground balls while Brenden O'Connor (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded two caused turnovers.
The Griffins were led by Noah Hammon who recorded five points on three goals and two assists. Austin Derx, Thomas Austin, and Nate Matthews each scored two goals. Jake Ballerini and Will Duddy each scored one goal and added two assists.
The Chargers will look to bounce back next Saturday when they return home to host Wilmington University at 3:00 PM on O'Brien Field.
