Lakewood, N.J. (9/16/23) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team fell to the Lions of Georgian Court University in their CACC opener.
The Chargers fall to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the CACC while the Lions earn their first win of the season to improve to 1-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
Sophomore goalkeeper David Arteaga (Middlesex, N.J.) made 10 saves in the game but suffered the loss.
The Lions took the lead less than ten minutes into the game when Gijs Van Elf scored an unassisted goal at the 9:43 mark. The Lions took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Lions fired 19 total shots in the first half but Arteaga made six first saves to keep the deficit to 1-0.
At the 58:44 mark in the second half, the Lions extended their lead to 2-0 after Cole Sullivan scored to give GCU a two-goal advantage and David Tuschmann recorded an assist on the goal.
Senior captain Jacob Owen (Middlesbrough, England) put the Chargers on the board after he buried his first goal of the season.
The Lions would hold the Chargers at one goal as they secured the 2-1 conference victory.
The Chargers will look to bounce back when they host Felician University for a CACC contest on Wednesday at the Town of Haverstraw Recreational Facility at 12:00 PM.
