PIRANA EARNS ALL-CACC RECOGNITION
New Haven, Conn. (11/7/23) Caldwell University standout Israel Dos Santos Neto on Tuesday was named the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Year as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Player of the Year Award is presented by CollegeAve Student Loans. Neto, who was also named to the All-CACC First Team, was tabbed the league's top player as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches in the sport.
In addition to Neto, Chestnut Hill College's Abdoulaye Kamagate was named CACC Rookie of the Year, while Post University's Felix Nassen (CACC Defensive Player of the Year) and Soren Jensen (CACC Goalkeeper of the Year) were the other major award winners. Post Head Coach Ted Haley was named the CACC Coach of the Year and Bloomfield College earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.
Dominican University New York's Guilherme Pirana (Jundiai, Brazil) was named to the Second Team. This is his first all-conference accolades. Pirana led the Chargers in goals and points, while sitting in a tie for second in assists. He ranked fourth in the league in goals scored, sixth in points and seventh in shots.
Neto ranks second in the CACC with 13 goals and 32 points as he helped lead Caldwell to the CACC playoffs. Neto also logged two game-winning goals, which was fifth best in the conference this season. He scored at least one goal in 10 of 16 matches and three matches where he booted in multiple strikes.
Kamagate played in both the field and in goal for the Griffins this season. He logged seven goals and three assists for 17 points and made three saves in net in emergency appearances for Chestnut Hill.
Nassen and Jensen were impactful in helping Post become the top defensive squad in the conference and nationally so far this season. The Eagles have posted nine shutouts so far in 2023, which is the best mark in the CACC.
Haley has done a masterful job leading Post as the Eagles are seeking a CACC Championship for the fifth-consecutive season they have competed in the sport (did not compete in the 2020-21 spring season due to COVID). The Eagles are nationally ranked and regionally ranked in the latest NCAA Division II East Region rankings that determine which teams make the D2 tournament.
