The first quarter belonged to the Hawks as they opened the game with the first eight points before sophomore Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) got the Lady Chargers on the scoreboard with a three-point basket. An 18-6 closing quarter run by Saint Anselm extended their lead to 26-9.
Guerra scored 10 points in the second quarter, going 4-7 from the floor to help cut the deficit to 42-24 at the intermission.
The Hawks scored 25 points in the third frame to increase their lead and outscored DC 21-18 in the final 10 minutes for the 88-51 win. In the final quarter, Dominican's bench provided the offense as they combined to score 15 points.
Guerra led Dominican with 16 points (5-11 from the floor, 2-2 from the three-point arc and 4-7 from the foul line).
Guard Ashley Merritt (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added eight points, two blocks and two steals, while Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) netted six points and five rebounds.
Amanda Gordon (Teaneck, N.J.) also scored six points and Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) came off the bench to grab a team best seven rebounds.
Freshman Naabea-Janaan Assibey-Bonsu (Central Islip, N.Y.) had five points in her collegiate debut.
Dominican (0-1) will take on Southern New Hampshire University (1-0) tomorrow afternoon.
