New Haven, Conn. (2/6/20) Three-time reigning champ Georgian Court University finds itself back in a familiar spot, as the Lions on Thursday were tabbed first in the 2020 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll. The announcement was made by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara, as the voting for the poll was conducted by the league's 10 head coaches in the sport.
GCU edged second place Thomas Jefferson University by just a few votes, as the Lions received 87 points in the voting and seven first-place votes. Jefferson logged 81 points and one first-place nod. The top-two teams in the poll were also last year's CACC finalists, as Georgian Court defeated the Rams to claim the program's third-consecutive title. Rounding out the top three of the standings was Wilmington University in third place with 75 points and a pair of first-place votes.
Georgian Court must replace the services of three-time CACC Player of the Year Samantha Fernandez, who exhausted her eligibility following the 2019 campaign, but the Lions still return several players in 2020 who have had a hand in leading the program to a trio of league titles. Three All-CACC honorees return from 2019, including first-teamer Jenna Hoffman, and second-team honorees Arianna Quinlan and Madison Heck.
Jefferson returns both of its All-CACC First-Team players from last season in Erin Campbell (2019 CACC Defensive Player of the Year) and Sarah von Lange. Wilmington also returns a pair of first-team all-league performers in Delaney Steele (2019 CACC Rookie of the Year) and Lashay Ross.
