LADY CHARGERS DOWN TIGERS IN CACC OPENER
Philadelphia, Pa. (3/16/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team downed the Tigers of Holy Family University in their CACC opener this afternoon on Tiger Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Lady Chargers win their third straight game to improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC. The Tigers fall to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lady Chargers opened the game with six straight goals and ended the opening quarter leading 7-1. DU added to their lead with four more goals and held an 11-3 lead by halftime.
Dominican continued their strong play in the second half by outscoring the Tigers 10-4 on their way to the 21-7 victory.
Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led the way with six goals and recorded three assists for nine points. DeStasio also recorded seven draw controls. Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) finished with seven points on four goals and three assists. Ortiz also added a team-high nine draw controls.
Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) and Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) each scored three goals in the win while Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) scored two goals and picked up a team-high five assists.
Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.), and Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) each scored one goal. Grella also added two assists. Strohmayer, Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.), and Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) each recorded three ground balls with Rigo adding a team-high four caused turnovers.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned her fifth win of the season in net and made six saves.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Saturday when they return home to host Chestnut Hill College at 12:00 PM on O'Brien Field.
