RAVENS RALLY TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/19/23) The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team rallied from a 17 point deficit at the intermission to upend the Dominican University New York women's basketball team, 71-59, this afternoon in the 10th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Prior to the start of the game, Regina Rivera '00 was posthumously inducted into the Dominican University New York Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in the Holt Room, with a light lunch following the ceremony.
The Lady Chargers (0-3) led 19-17 after one quarter of play and outscored their opponents, 20-5 in the second frame to expand the lead to 39-22 at the break.
Dominican opened up third quarter action with a free throw from Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) to give them their biggest lead of the game (40-22) and would lead 45-30 with a little over five minutes left in the period. Franklin Pierce (4-1) closed the quarter with 11 unanswered points to cut the lead to 45-41.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Ravens as they scored 30 points to the Lady Chargers 14 points in rallying to the victory. Guard Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) netted her 1,000th career point with 3:46 remaining in the period on a baseline jumper.
Senior Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Suarez finished with 12 points, a game best seven assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Forward Jordan Smith (Pleasantville, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 11 points and pull down a team best eight caroms, while Howard netted 11 points, seven boards and three assists in the loss.
The Ravens were led by Kenzie Sirowich with 21 points and Anna Badosa Soler who recorded the game's only double-double wih 16 points and 10 rebounds.
