SETTERS OUTLAST LADY CHARGERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/9/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to the Setters of Pace University on Coach Baxter Coach in the Hennessy Center.
With the loss, the Lady Chargers fall to 2-7 overall on the season while Pace improves to 8-1 overall.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) each led Dominican in points scored with 13. Ndukauba also finished the game with a team-high eight boards, three assists, and three blocks while Howard pulled down four boards.
Keylee Harrison (Newport News, Va.) provided 11 points and three rebounds off the bench while Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored eight points, pulled down six rebounds, and added a team-high five assists.
After a low scoring first quarter, the Setters started the second quarter strong by extending to their largest lead of the game which was 12 points.
Dominican fought their way back into the game before the half by going on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to five before the break.
Both teams played an even third quarter with the Setters extending to a seven point lead and led Dominican by five points by the start of the fourth quarter.
The Lady Chargers tied the game with over six minutes to play but Pace went on a 13-6 run to regain a seven point lead and held the lead down the stretch to top the Lady Chargers 66-60.
The Setters were led by Arianna Stockinger who scored 16 points and recorded seven boards. Ciara Collins and Mackenzie Martin each scored 13 points and Martin finished with eight rebounds. Shanice Sinclair also recorded eight rebounds and added five assists and 12 points.
Pace shot 37.9% from the field while the Lady Chargers shot 35.7%. Dominican held the edge in free-throw shooting by going 18-24 and outscored the Setters in the paint 34-30 and in bench points 20-10.
Pace capitalized on 13 DU turnovers by scoring 11 points and outrebounded Dominican 46-36.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Saturday when they host Holy Family University for a 3:00 PM tip-off in the Hennessy Center.
