LADY CHARGERS UPEND LIONS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/14/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team upended the Lions of Georgian Court University this afternoon in CACC action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers opened their three game homestand with an 81-66 victory to improve to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. GCU falls to 1-12 overall and 1-3 in the CACC.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) was the leading scorer for Dominican with a game-high 26 points and recorded 10 boards for her second double-double of the season.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) matched her season-high with 18 points and recorded a team-high four steals as well as added three assists. Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) finished with 14 points and a team-high seven assists. Mills also added three rebounds and three steals.
Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) went 3-6 from three-point range for nine points while Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded six boards.
Dominican's largest lead of the first half was five points and held a one-point lead over the Lions by halftime.
Dominican used a strong third quarter to extend to a 12 point lead by putting up 23 points. The Lady Chargers followed up their strong third quarter by extending to their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter which was 17 and secured the win.
The Lady Chargers shot 44.4% from the field and turned 25 GCU turnovers into 17 points.
Dominican continues their homestand Wednesday when they host north division rival Felician University at 5:30 PM.
