LADY CHARGERS FALL TO GRIFFINS IN CACC QUARTERFINALS
Philadelphia, Pa. (3/5/24) The #3 seed in the north division Lady Chargers fell to the #2 seed in the south Chestnut Hill College in the CACC Quarterfinals 51-49 in a game played at Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Griffins outscored the Lady Chargers 17-9 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback victory and earn a spot in the CACC semifinals.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored a game high 19 points and recorded a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 15 points and added eight boards while Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored 10 points and added team-highs in steals with five and assists with four.
The Griffins were led by Kaitlyn Carter who recorded a double-double with a game-high 14 boards and added 14 points. Birdie Mccann and Caraline Herb each scored 13 points. Avery White pulled down six boards and recorded a team-high five assists.
The Lady Chargers had a strong opening quarter led by Howard who scored 12 of DU's 16 points on 5-5 from the field. Another strong second quarter led by Ndukauba's eight points gave the Lady Chargers a 31-27 advantage at halftime.
By the end of a low scoring third quarter, Dominican held a 40-34 lead. CHC used a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead over the Lady Chargers and later extended to their largest lead of the game which was six points.
Dominican cut the CHC lead to two points with less than one minute to play after two big free throws by Suarez.
Dominican had possession of the ball with less than ten seconds to play but one last stop by the Griffin defense secured the 51-49 victory.
